The SYCC began as a response to tragedy. Like many others in our community, our founder, Lisa Swansen, NP, tragically lost her son. She has dedicated herself to assisting our youth and family community to find resources and assistance. The SYCC is the outcome of that experience.
In March of 2019, the SYCC had its first event. In November of 2019 the SYCC had a tremendous surge in development with a new Board of Directors and a group of dedicated professionals and organizations. We are receiving guidance and assistance from other important community organizations, including the Tempe Coalition and the National Guard.
As of May 2020, the SYCC Board consists of 5 professionals with dedicated and valuable involvement from the National Guard. Before the Covid-19 pandemic the Board was meeting once weekly and Professional Meetings were occurring once monthly with up to 40+ participants discussing issues regarding Mental Health, Eating Disorders and Substance Abuse in the Scottsdale area community. In Response to Covid-19 the SYCC has transitioned to digital meetings for both the board and the Professionals Meetings.
